In 2021 Teddy Smith, of his New York City-based Aime Leon Dore (ALD), became NB’s Creative Director. Shortly after his appointment he stumbled upon an image of the 550 and, being a fan of the 90s, was immediately enchanted.
But there was very little available information about the decades-old product so the new 550 had to be rebuilt from scratch with as many as ten design revisions. It was released in September 2020 with four new colorways. So in a sense, the rebirth of the 550 is a brand new baby inspired by its rich ancestry.

This remix of a classic is made up of Black and Light Smoke Grey, but flips the original blocking. Instead of finding the grey on the toe box, it appears on the suede overlays. The black nylon tongue is contrasted by grey throughout, from the swoosh to the forefoot. Staying true to the OG, the Air Jordan wings insignia is still etched on the side.
The pair comes with an extra set of laces in, you guessed it, grey.

]]>For the first time, Michael Jordan’s alma mater’s colors make their way onto the Jordan 4. The UNC-inspired colorway features tech grey, white, black, and of course, the University Blue that adorns its name.
University Blue dominates the shoe like Jordan did the court. The genuine suede leather upper sits next to the mesh netting on the quarter panel and tongue bottom. Sticking with usual Jordan 4 tradition, the cement splatter finds its place on the heel tabs, wings, and midsole. Black eyelets and midsole trims contrast the lightly-colored silhouette to provide extra emphasis.
Besides the University Blue that is bound to catch any eye, the tongue brings something new to the table (or should we say shoe?). The white and grey tongue boasts a stitched woven jock tag with none other than #23, akin to the tag you have on the side of a jersey. Streetwear just got sweeter! Kanopy teamed up with Chocotoy for our first ever official collaboration of the year.
Chocotoy is the brainchild of Luis Alfonso Albornoz and Karen Guevara, who are Venezuelan-based artists and creators. Whether you’re into art and illustration or not, you have probably already seen Chocotoy’s mind-blowing illustrations gracing the likes of MLB gear, Gatorade bottles, and J. Balvin and Bad Bunny’s album art, to name a few.
Little did anyone know that this art project would turn into a world-renowned brand and graphic design studio of its own.
Their inspiration stems from the Japanese art style known as kawaii. Kawaii means “pretty,” and the popping colors are definitely a sight to be seen, making pretty just one of the adjectives that can be used to describe the works. The illustrations are filled with cookies, sweets, treats, and doll-like characters. According to Albornoz, the reason for this is because they want to “make illustrations you want to eat.”
Adorning the Kanopy x Chocotoy line are colorful characters that are bound to grab the attention of any passerby. The line features brightly hued characters and animals set amidst the backdrop of white, black, blue, and purple hoodies and tees. Excitingly, we also have Alondra Carvajal on board as our brand ambassador for Kanopy x Chocotoy. Alondra’s the type of person who always remains true to herself and is the walking definition of freedom of expression (just check out her sleeves). The freshly released photos showcase the smooth leather base adorned by suede overlays. The classic silhouette boasts a washed-out Hyper Royal blue finish. With tall collars in light smoke grey, the center of attention falls upon the faded Hyper Royal and allows the panels to pop even more.
With light smoke grey swooshes and soles to complete the look, the bright blue “Nike Air” tongue label contrasts beautifully with the rest of the shoe.
